Newcastle United secured a second victory in a matter of days by beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s Magpies beat Union Saint-Gilloise in midweek, securing a first Champions League win this season.

Newcastle returned to Tyneside to host Nottingham Forest, but Howe will have been frustrated by a slightly low-energy first-half display.

The second half was a different story as Bruno Guimaraes curled Newcastle in front before winning a penalty after an Elliot Anderson foul.

Nick Woltemade converted with confidence to add another goal to his ever-growing tally in a Newcastle shirt.

Nick Woltemade matches Newcastle United legends after scoring against Nottingham Forest

Woltemade’s penalty was the sign of a man who is loving his football right now.

The German waltzed up to the ball before placing his strike right into the top corner, leaving Forest stopper Matz Sels stranded.

Woltemade only joined Newcastle in August, but he has quickly become a fan favourite after making an immediate impact.

Sunday’s goal against Forest means Woltemade has now followed in the footsteps of two former Magpies heroes.

As noted by BBC Sport, Woltemade is now just the third player to score in each of their first three Premier League games at St James’ Park.

The other two were Les Ferdinand in 1995 and Alan Shearer in 1996, two players who found the net consistently for Newcastle.

Woltemade found the net on his home debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers before adding another goal against Arsenal last weekend.

Woltemade has certainly made a brilliant start, and will hope to continue scoring goals just as Ferdinand and Shearer did in the famous black and white stripes.

Nick Woltemade can keep his great form going on international duty

Another international break is now upon us, and that means Woltemade is heading away with Germany.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side take on Luxembourg and Northern Ireland in this international break, with Woltemade set to play a key role.

Four goals in seven games is a dream start for Woltemade at Newcastle, and he will now look to get off the mark for Germany.

Woltemade is yet to score in his four senior caps for Germany, but a first goal for the 23-year-old surely isn’t far away.

Few would be surprised to see him find the net in Germany’s coming fixtures, before returning to England to face Brighton and Hove Albion in Newcastle’s next game.
