Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have been asked about the possibility of Eddie Howe leaving Newcastle United to become the new Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new manager after deciding to sack Ruben Amorim on Monday. Darren Fletcher has been placed in interim charge, as the search begins for Amorim’s successor.

Chaos continues to reign supreme behind the scenes at Old Trafford, which makes Newcastle United’s loss to Manchester United on Boxing Day all the more infuriating.

Are you worried Man Utd could make a move for Howe after sacking Amorim? 👀

He would be crazy to go there!

The likes of Oliver Glasner and Gareth Southgate have been linked with the job, while there has been no mention of Man United trying to tempt Eddie Howe away from St James’ Park.

However, that has not stopped two Man United legends pondering the possibility of the Newcastle United manager swapping the North East for the North West.

Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt want Eddie Howe at Manchester United

Following Manchester United’s decision to sack Ruben Amorim, Scholes and Butt have been given a list of possible candidates to replace him.

Speaking on the Good, the Bad and the Football X account, the former Man United midfielders were asked to simply say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ in response to each manager.

The last manager they were asked about was Eddie Howe, with Scholes and Butt both emphatically saying ‘yes’ in unison.

It is no surprise that they would want Howe to replace Amorim given what he has achieved on Tyneside. However, the likelihood of Howe making the move to Old Trafford is remote.

The reason why Eddie Howe would not leave Newcastle for Manchester United

Rival clubs should want Howe as their manager. However, that is not to say they will be able to get him.

Howe has been linked with the Chelsea job, but he will not be moving to Stamford Bridge. The way they operate behind the scenes will not appeal to Howe, who calls all the shots at St James’ Park.

It is the same reason why Howe will not be the next Manchester United manager.

He has control at Newcastle United, with PIF creating a structure that protects Howe and should allow him to thrive. That is even more true following the arrivals of David Hopkinson and Ross Wilson.

Howe has got everything he wants, and they are luxuries he would not be afforded elsewhere.
