While some had suggested Eddie Howe’s time at Newcastle United was about to come to an end, few would have expected him to move on to another club in the Premier League.
Results and performances in the second half of 2025 were simply not good enough for Newcastle, and they go into the new year sitting in the bottom half of the table.
If you could voice one concern to Eddie Howe about Newcastle United right now, what would it be?
Yes, I know we won, but let's not pretend that was great 😂
But, Newcastle are backing Eddie Howe all the way, with rumours suggesting he would be sacked firmly put to bed by internal sources at the club.
However, there is a chance — albeit a slim one — that Howe could still leave the club, with Chelsea apparently now showing an interesting in making him their new manager.

Chelsea eyeing up shock move for Eddie Howe
According to a report from The Express, Chelsea have Eddie Howe on their shortlist to replace the outgoing Enzo Maresca after a weekend of chaos at Stamford Bridge.
Liam Rosenior is the leading candidate to take over, but Howe is reportedly seen as the ‘ideal successor’ to Maresca. It’s said the Newcastle United manager is ‘held in high regard’ by Chelsea officials and moves have been made internally there to see whether it would be possible to lure him away from Tyneside.
Apparently, Chelsea have been in touch with Howe’s representatives, but it is unclear at this stage what has actually been said and how the man himself feels.
The report concludes by claiming Howe would be given unprecedented financial freedom at Chelsea and he would most certainly get a bumper pay rise. But, his loyalty to Newcastle is expected to make any move difficult.

Sound logic or stubbornness from Eddie Howe here?
Newcastle United stability and adoration should stave off Chelsea pursuit
Therein lies the problem, for Chelsea at least. Howe has worked under relatively difficult and restrictive circumstances at Newcastle, with PIF’s spending power limited by PSR. But, he clearly loves the club and it’s almost impossible to imagine him wanting to jump ship.
The love Newcastle fans have for Howe and the special connection formed by that Carabao Cup win in 2025 would be hard to break. Indeed, the fact that the club’s hierarchy has unwavering support for Howe would count for a lot, especially in contrast to the turbulent nature of Chelsea’s inner workings.
I do believe Newcastle could and should look to upgrade on Howe in the summer, but the idea of him leaving now, in the middle of the season, is absurd. Newcastle won’t want to lose him, Howe won’t want to betray the club and the fans, and Chelsea’s money will count for very little in this situation.
