Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson is saying all the right things about the future of the club.

Though some may laugh at his suggestion, Hopkinson believes that Newcastle could be the best club in the world by 2030

That does not afford owners PIF much time to take Newcastle United into a new stratosphere but it’s great to at least hear about the level of ambition after a challenging few months.

Knowing what you know now, would you have sold Alexander Isak in 2024 instead of Elliot Anderson? 🤔

In this scenario, we still win the Carabao Cup by the way 😂

One didn’t want to leave. The other did his best to.

Eddie Howe’s side are yet to convince this season but, broadly, the picture is looking good.

They are into the Carabao Cup semi-finals once again, while reaching the Champions League knockout stages looks like a realistic possibility.

PIF are still ambitious at Newcastle and Hopkinson has now revealed a fascinating conversation he just had with Howe and sporting director Ross Wilson

David Hopkinson has spoken to Eddie Howe and Ross Wilson about winning more trophies

The club’s CEO was speaking at an event run by the club, a lunch inside the Platinum Club at St James’ Park.

It’s an annual festive lunch run for people suffering from Alzheimer’s, as well as their family members and those who care for them.

Hopkinson was the special guest and while his comments on the club’s future clearly aren’t the most important thing about the brilliant event, they are worth reading.

The Athletic had a chat with the Canadian, who has revealed he had recently held talks with Howe and Wilson about the club’s ambition.

“For the future of this club, I only want to focus on more trophies,” he said.

“We want to defend the Carabao Cup and we want bigger prizes. That’s what I see as my role here. I just met with the manager at the training ground, and that’s what we and Ross — an extraordinarily gifted football executive — are focused on. We’re going to measure our success in trophies.”

PIF have a big plan at Newcastle United and David Hopkinson can play a huge role in it

Hopkinson is a highly rated CEO and will hopefully be the man to deliver what the Newcastle United owners want.

PIF have an ambitious plan at Newcastle called ‘Project 2030’, which could see the club become a leading force in world football.

It includes:

It remains to be seen if all that is possible in just four years, particularly given all the delays over the new stadium.

However, while recent criticism is fair, Newcastle have already made so much progress under PIF that it cannot be ruled out entirely.
