Bruno Guimaraes is currently the top earner at Newcastle United.

When he signed his new contract with Newcastle United in October 2023, he received a big pay rise – one that resulted in him earning more money than his Toon teammates at St James’ Park.

It is reported that Bruno Guimaraes earns around £160,000-a-week at Newcastle, with his status as the highest earner a reflection of his importance to the club.

But the Magpies might have a new highest earner in the near future.

Newcastle United plan Anthony Gordon contract offer

Ever since the conclusion of the Euros, Newcastle United have planned to talk to Anthony Gordon about a new contract.

It has been reported that Gordon’s contract situation is now a priority for Newcastle, with the 23-year-old’s deal due to expire in 2026. And this comes on the back of the winger almost joining Liverpool amid Newcastle’s PSR disaster over the summer.

Newcastle are now trying to show Gordon some love and get him to commit his future to the Magpies, and they intend to do that by making him a huge contract offer.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are going to offer Gordon more than the £160,000-a-week that Bruno earns on Tyneside.

They report that Newcastle are willing to pay Gordon nearly £9million-a-year, as they aim to retain the services of one of their best players.

What will happen if Gordon does not sign a new contract at Newcastle

It remains to be seen if Gordon will sign a new deal at St James’ Park.

The hope is that he will, as he has developed into an elite player under the guidance of Eddie Howe. Jamie Carragher has described Gordon as one of the Premier League’s best, while it also looks like he could now become an England regular.

He started both of the Three Lions’ recent Nations League games, and Lee Carsley described Gordon as a ‘real dangerous player’.

Newcastle fans want him to keep being dangerous in a black and white shirt, but that will hinge on how these contract talks go.

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle might have to think about selling Gordon next summer if he fails to agree new terms, with Liverpool and Arsenal keen.

That sounds worrying, but it should come as no surprise. If Gordon has not signed a new deal by the summer of 2025 then he will be entering the final 12 months of his deal. In that instance, of course Newcastle will consider selling him, rather than risk him leave for nothing.

But hopefully it does not come to that. With talks on the horizon and a mega money offer prepared, fingers crossed Gordon signs on the dotted line to remain a Newcastle United player.
