Newcastle United are enjoying fantastic start to the season.
It may not always be totally convincing but Newcastle remain unbeaten and continue to show their character, having come from behind to beat Wolves in the Premier League at Molineux on Sunday.
While even the most ardent supporter would surely admit Eddie Howe’s side are not at their absolute best, taking ten points from a possible twelve represents a fine start to the new campaign, particularly given the underwhelming summer transfer window.
There is little doubting the quality of this Newcastle squad. Indeed, it is one of the most expensive in the world for a reason.
Howe has perhaps not seen the best of his big players just yet but there have been flashes. Anthony Gordon, after all, went on a fine solo run at Wolves and almost scored a brilliant individual goal.
Speaking about the winger, pundit Jamie Carragher was effusive in his praise.

Reflecting on Gordon’s run, Carragher told Sky Sports at 16.54pm BST on 15/09/2024: “Gordon has Semedo on toast in the opening 23 minutes and it just hits the outside, rather than the inside of the post.
“He is without doubt one of the best left-sided forwards in the Premier League.”
Anthony Gordon is working his way back up to full fitness
After a disappointing time of things at Euro 2024 having barely played, it’s been a strange summer for Gordon. There was then the talk of a move to Liverpool, which is thought to have unsettled the winger.
Still, things appear to be on the up for Gordon. Howe is confident the 23-year-old is working his way back up to full fitness and he is still among the best chance creators in the Premier League.
Carragher is right in his assessment. Hopefully, as Gordon gets fitter and fitter, Newcastle will start to see his quality more regularly.
If he does, this strong start to the season may just last a while…
