Newcastle United want to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer as they look to get their squad ready for another huge season.
After a successful season, Newcastle United are gearing up for another Champions League campaign.
As such, Eddie Howe will need his squad strengthened and Mbeumo is a leading target.
Indeed, Newcastle have held positive talks with Mbeumo’s agents as they look to land him ahead of the likes of Manchester United.
Clearly, holding talks with him is only part of the issue. Brentford are willing to sell Mbeumo but are unlikely to be prepared to cash in cheaply.
In fact, it seems the Bees could have other worries on the agenda.

Thomas Frank linked with Tottenham as Newcastle United look to sign Bryan Mbeumo
That’s because, according to Foot Mercato, Tottenham have held talks with Brentford manager Thomas Frank.
Frank could come into the frame for the Spurs job given there are now serious doubts about Ange Postecoglou’s future in north London despite winning the Europa League.
The Dane is even said to have held talks with Spurs over potential targets this summer.
Caught Offside linked Spurs with a move for the Brentford star last month and it’s not hard to imagine Frank wanting Mbeumo to join him in north London, should he make the move.
If there’s already interest from Spurs, Frank would hardly need convincing. He’s constantly praised the player.
Frank thinks Mbeumo was “unplayable” against Newcastle in December, following a game in which he scored and assisted.
Even if he doesn’t move for one of his former players if he joined Spurs, the fact Brentford could be looking for a new manager would also be an unwelcome development.
Anything that threatens to scupper Newcastle moving for Mbeumo as quickly as possible is not ideal, given Howe wants Newcastle to sign their transfer targets quickly.
How Bryan Mbeumo has reacted to Newcastle United transfer talks
Mbeumo has responded positively to Newcastle’s interest, though that is obviously no guarantee that they’ll actually sign him.
The forward is in demand after scoring 20 Premier League goals during the 2024/25 season.
Spurs, despite an awful domestic season, can offer Champions League football next season. If Frank was in charge, that would surely play into their favour too should they step up their reported interest.
With Manchester United also in the running, Newcastle could have a fight on their hands.
