Newcastle United are seriously interested in signing Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, but face tough competition from Manchester United.
The Magpies are desperate to add more bodies on the wing after losing Yankuba Minteh during the 2024 summer transfer window due to PSR reasons. Thankfully, Newcastle United have no PSR concerns and are now ready to spend much more openly to bring the players Eddie Howe is desperate for to Tyneside.
Jacob Murphy has been brilliant for Newcastle this season, but there will be concerns about whether the 30-year-old can replicate his attacking returns from this season in the future.
Newcastle see Bryan Mbeumo as their ‘dream’ signing after the 25-year-old endured a brilliant Premier League season, scoring 20 goals.
However, a deal for the 25-year-old looks far from easy. It was recently reported that Manchester United have begun talks with Mbuemo, having already agreed personal terms with Wolves attacker and Newcastle target Matheus Cunha.
With Mbeumo’s club for next season still being decided, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has provided the latest on his future, and it looks like good news for Paul Mitchell at Newcastle.

Thomas Frank open to selling Bryan Mbeumo amid Newcastle United links
Earlier this season, Frank was very reluctant to sell Mbeumo and even slapped a £60m price tag on him to deter clubs from putting in an offer.
However, it was recently revealed that Brentford will accept as little as £54m for Mbeumo this summer.
With Newcastle and Man United now circling, Frank has admitted that Mbeumo could leave Brentford this summer due to the Bees having the reputation for being a selling club.
“Very happy (for him). Because we know it’s a mark that is very difficult to get in any league and very difficult to get in this league,” Frank told the Hounslow Herald.
“We are a selling club, so if someone comes in with the right price, then (we would sell).
“I definitely can understand the interest in him. There should be interest, at least there are rumours. I don’t know who makes these rumours up, so maybe there is something.
“But there should be interest in him. In his best age, scored 20 goals, worked hard, top personality. But I would like to keep him.”

Bryan Mbeumo’s statistics compared to Jacob Murphy’s at Newcastle United
Should Mbeumo join Newcastle this summer, he would be thrown straight into the starting XI, leaving Murphy to sit on the bench.
While he may not be best pleased with that news, Murphy will surely understand that Mbeumo’s inclusion is for the good of the club.
| 2024/25 Premier League Statistics | Bryan Mbeumo | Jacob Murphy |
| Appearances | 38 | 35 |
| Goals | 20 | 8 |
| Assists | 7 | 12 |
However, Murphy can make a good argument to play ahead of Mbeumo for some games next season as he registered more assists than the Cameroonian in the 2024/25 Premier League season.
The Englishman formed a strong partnership with star striker Alexander Isak throughout the campaign and was statistically one of Europe’s best attacking partnerships.
Murphy is set to sign a new deal at Newcastle, a reward for his hard work this season, but he is likely to be reduced to second choice if Mbeumo signs next season.
