The latest transfer news and rumours regarding Newcastle United, including words from Joelinton and an update on Eddie Howe’s potential second signing.

Thursday was a wild day for the Magpies, with Eddie Howe launching a stunning triple bid for Anthony Elanga, James Trafford and Joao Pedro.

Fans are waiting with patience to see who will become the second signing of the transfer window. New developments show that it could be announced sooner rather than later. With the Magpies not giving up on their transfer targets, we look at the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Newcastle.

Newcastle United to launch second James Trafford bid

On Thursday, it was revealed that Newcastle made a £25m plus add-ons approach for Burnley’s James Trafford. Unfortunately, that approach was knocked back, so it is back to the drawing board for Howe.

According to the Times, Newcastle are going to act fast and place a second bid for Trafford in the coming days. It has already been confirmed that Trafford has agreed personal terms with Newcastle so it is down to the Magpies and the Clarets to come to an agreement on the fee.

There is no confirmation on exactly how much Newcastle will offer, but it is likely to be around the £30m region.

Joelinton explains why he wore the shirt of another team

Earlier this week, Joelinton was spotted wearing another team’s shirt and training with them. It turned out it was Brazilian Serie A side Sport Recife with whom he was training with. There have been a few alarm bells in the early parts of the summer after Geordie Boot Boys revealed that there is Saudi interest in Joelinton.

The Brazilian appears to have started pre-season training early and has already offered an explanation as to why he was pictured in the other team’s shirt.

Speaking to Brazilian media, Joelinton said: “Whenever I’m on vacation, I come here to train. This has happened every season and it has brought me luck. I’m very happy to be back home.”

The 28-year-old will be back in pre-season training with Newcastle on July 7.

John Ruddy attracts interest from Norwich City

Having signed in 2024, John Ruddy has not made a single appearance for the Magpies. Howe brought him to the club to set a standard in training and be a backup if there was ever an injury crisis.

Ruddy is out of contract in a few days’ time, but has reportedly been offered a new deal. However, Ruddy is eager to play out the remainder of his career, which he definitely will not do at Newcastle.

This could mean that Ruddy opts to leave the Magpies in search of first-team football. According to inews, Ruddy has interest from Norwich City, one of his former clubs, currently stuck in the Championship and in need of a hero.

You never know, Ruddy could be the person they need to get them back up into the Premier League.
