Newcastle United must reset after a heavy defeat to Aston Villa.
A brilliant winning run came to an end for Newcastle United on Saturday, with Jason Tindall’s side falling to a potentially costly Premier League loss at Villa Park.
Aston Villa thrashed Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday evening, representing another twist in the Champions League race.

Unai Emery’s side now sit just two points behind the Magpies in the Premier League table.
Still, Newcastle have potential Champions League qualification in their own hands.
A defeat at Villa can happen (and did in April 2023 before Eddie Howe’s side claimed a top-four finish).
However, one thing that could cause alarm is a potential injury to a key player during the run-in.
The Newcastle United manager, of course, is not on the touchline as Howe is recovering from pneumonia.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news.

Fabian Schar
Fabian Schar suffered a hamstring injury on Saturday.
Schar struggled against Villa, with Ollie Watkins enjoying his match-up. The defender was replaced by Matt Targett towards the closing stages and Tindall confirmed an injury when speaking after the game.
“Fabi was feeling his hamstring in the game, so he felt it was the wise move to bring him off and to try and protect him, to make sure that hopefully he’s okay for the remaining games,” he said (via the Shields Gazette.)
Potential return date: Unknown
Sven Botman
The news is better in regard to Sven Botman, however.
The Dutchman has hardly played this season after surgery on a serious knee injury last year. He did briefly return at the start of 2025 but needed another minor operation, albeit this time on the opposite knee.
Now, Botman has hinted he’s close to a return from injury, having posted a photo of himself in action with two sand timer emojis added, before Saturday’s game.
Potential return date: April/May 2025
Jamaal Lascelles
Botman’s potential return would come at a good time for Newcastle, given Schar’s knock.
Sadly for Jamaal Lascelles, it seems unlikely he’ll be ready to cover.
The club captain had surgery on an ACL injury last year and has not featured since.
Last month, Howe suggested Lascelles may not play at all this season.
“I don’t know if we will see Jamaal again (this season) and I don’t want to set a target or time,” he said.
Potential return date: Unknown
Lewis Hall
Lewis Hall is also unavailable for Newcastle for the final few games of the season.
One of the key players this season, Hall suffered an ankle injury in March and will not feature before the end of the campaign.
Last month, the England international posted a photo of him after ankle surgery on Instagram and captioned it: “Still absolutely devastated to not be out there with the lads at such a crucial part of the season.
“Surgery was a success and now time to rest, recover and support the boys. Thank you for all the messages over the past week, can’t wait to be back out there ready for next season.”
Potential return date: Summer 2025
