Newcastle United are riding the crest of a wave heading into the final few games of the season.

After winning the Carabao Cup, Newcastle United are currently on course to secure at least a top-three finish in the Premier League, which would of course send them straight back into the Champions League.

Sitting pretty in the Premier League table, Eddie Howe’s side are in fine form even without the manager on the touchline after he was admitted to hospital with pneumonia.

Sven Botman

Defender Sven Botman has struggled with injury for the last two seasons. Excellent during his first year at the club, the Dutchman required knee surgery on a serious injury back in March 2024.

While he made a brief return towards the start of 2025, the 25-year-old then required another knee operation, albeit on the opposite leg.

Still, it seems the former Lille star could make a comeback reasonably soon.

Speaking before Wednesday’s game against Palace, Jason Tindall confirmed Botman would be back in contention imminently

“I’ve been really pleased with Sven Botman’s recovery,” he said.

“He’s ahead of schedule, he’s now back out on the grass and hopefully he’ll be back out there or back in contention very soon for us.”

Potential return date: April/May 2025

Jamaal Lascelles

Like Botman, Jamaal Lascelles required knee surgery in March 2024. However, the club captain has not been able to follow the Dutchman back into the side at all this season.

It remains to be seen what happens with the defender. Howe has suggested Lascelles may not play at all this season, with the club refusing to rush him back into action given the severity of his injury.

Last month, the Newcastle United manager said: “I don’t know if we will see Jamaal again (this season) and I don’t want to set a target or time.”

Lascelles is now under contract until the summer of 2026 though, so perhaps supporters will see him play for Newcastle again after all.

Potential return date: Unknown

Lewis Hall

Lewis Hall emerged as one of Newcastle’s most important players this season, having endured a difficult time for the club during his first year.

Cruelly, however, Hall suffered an ankle injury in March and duly missed the Carabao Cup final.

The England international will not play again this season but the hope is that he will return in time for pre-season preparations later this summer.

A club statement released last month read: “Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot.

“The 20-year-old was injured during the Magpies’ Premier League fixture at Liverpool.

“Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.

“Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Lewis the very best with his surgery and recovery.”

Potential return date: Summer 2025
