Newcastle United will be without manager Eddie Howe for their upcoming games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

Howe is already a Newcastle United legend after ending their infamous 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy. Last month, he lead his team to a Carabao Cup victory following a 2-1 win over Liverpool, sparking wild scenes of jubilation from supporters all over the globe.

The Newcastle United manager is currently on course to secure a second Champions League qualification in three seasons too, with his side fourth in the Premier League

They sit just a point behind Nottingham Forest in third, while also boasting a game in hand. On current form, a return to the grandest stage of European club competition looks increasingly likely.

Still, while there is plenty left to play for this season, Howe’s health is the most important thing. That cannot be overstated.

Howe missed Newcastle’s win over Manchester United after having been admitted to hospital with pneumonia.

As such, the club have confirmed assistant manager Jason Tindall will take charge of at least the next two games, leading the Newcastle coaching staff alongside Graeme Jones.

Eddie Howe latest update amid Newcastle absence

According to iNews, the messaging internally at Newcastle is crystal clear.

The club are not putting a timeline on his potential return.

There will be no pressure from decision-makers at St James’ Park to rush into a return of any nature. Should that mean he misses the rest of the season, then it is reportedly a case of ‘so be it’.

In a statement released by the club earlier this week, Howe said (via Newcastle’s official website): “A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family.

“I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who have treated me. I’m immensely grateful for the specialist care I’m receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible.”

Tindall revealed Howe messaged him to say congratulations after Newcastle beat Manchester United, having been able to watch the game.

Prior to the Palace game, Tindall said: “He’s in the best possible hands and he’ll be back as soon as he feels he’s ready to come back. Your health is the most important thing, that’s why it’s so important that when he comes back he is able to lead the team as we know he does, which I’m sure he will do.”
