Newcastle United striker William Osula continued his fine form for the Denmark U21s on Sunday night.

Osula led the line for the Danes against the Netherlands and the Newcastle United forward proved excellent again.

Only a few days after Osula scored and assisted for Denmark U21s against Ukraine, the former Sheffield United ace was at it again.

The 21-year-old bagged a brace for his country against the Dutch, sending Denmark into the quarter-finals in only their second game.

Toon fans on social media were delighted with Osula’s statement performance.

A number of them again expressed their surprise that Callum Wilson was selected over the forward last season.

Now, ahead of the new campaign, they are hoping he can flourish in the first team. Anthony Gordon, of course, starred for England in this competition back in 2023 and returned to Newcastle a much better player.

“I know it’s only under 21s but Howe’s decision to give Wilson game time ahead of Osula at the back end of the season is crazy,” said another fan.

One supporter added: “He definitely shouldn’t be going out on loan.”

“Quality… William Osula securing Denmark 6 pts so far and being the striker the England under 21s wish they had! Good times ahead,” said another supporter.

William Osula could be about to save Newcastle United millions

Osula is staying at Newcastle this summer despite loan interest from the Championship.

With that in mind, it’ll be fascinating to see what kind of role he plays under Eddie Howe next season.

He did not start a Premier League game during the 2024/25 campaign but did impress in flashes.

If he can take this form into next season, Newcastle are going to have quite the player on their hands.

While Newcastle want to sign a new forward this summer, perhaps the need to bring in cover for Alexander Isak will become slightly less urgent. Osula is at least showing signs he could potentially fill that role, perhaps moving ahead of Wilson in the pecking order.

Clearly, there’s still a long way to go but the signs are looking promising. Next season could be a big year for him.
