December proved to be an extremely successful month for Newcastle United.
Newcastle United played seven times across the month of December and have entered 2025 on a five-game winning streak.
The month started with an action-packed 3-3 draw to Liverpool and ended with an emphatic 2-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Magpies have now climbed to fifth place in the Premier League table to put themselves firmly in the race for Champions League qualification.

Goals had been an issue for Newcastle earlier in the season but Eddie Howe’s side found the back of the net 21 times in December. Eight of those were scored by Alexander Isak.

Alexander Isak nominated for Premier League Player of the Month
After scoring in all six of Newcastle United’s Premier League fixtures in December, it is hardly a surprise that Isak has been nominated for Player of the Month.
Isak came close to matching Alan Shearer’s record for most goals in a single calendar year. He fell just short but enters 2025 in red-hot form.
The Premier League announced the eight nominees for December Player of the Month on Thursday morning and Isak is not the only Newcastle star in the running.
He is joined by teammate Jacob Murphy, who ended the month with three goals and four assists.
Howe has been full of praise for Murphy, who had only registered two assists in the Premier League before his purple patch in December.
Eddie Howe nominated for Premier League Manager of the Month
Alongside Isak and Murphy, Howe also has a chance to collect some silverware after being nominated for Manager of the Month.
Howe is one of four nominations alongside Liverpool’s Arne Slot, Nottingham Forest’s Nuno Espirito Santo and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

After an underwhelming start to the season, Howe was facing questions over his future at St James’ Park.
In response to the sack rumours, Howe promised Newcastle would “entertain” and stick to their attacking philosophy. He proved over December that he is still the right man to take Newcastle forward.
