Newcastle transfers: PIF draw up big plans with five players targeted

Wherever Newcastle United finish this season, it’s going to be a big summer for the club.

Barring an utter capitulation from here, Newcastle will almost certainly be playing European football to at least some degree next season.

Clearly, the preferred competition would be the Champions League and Eddie Howe’s side have every chance of making that happen.

Still, while dropping out of the top four would be a huge disappointment, even Europa League football would be something supporters couldn’t have even dreamt about a short time ago.

No matter what format Howe leads his team into next season, however, it’s clear that the squad will need improving.

Newcastle aren’t exactly blessed with a huge amount of options at the moment, meaning more new faces can surely be expected to arrive. Both quality and quantity will be required to battle across a number of fronts.

PIF ready to spend big this summer

Luckily then, reports from iNews have emerged.

They claim PIF are ready to put their hands into their pockets once more and move for five first-team players this summer.

The view is to challenge in whatever European competition Newcastle are in, as well as for domestic honours.

Newcastle need numbers in midfield

While there is some way to go before the summer transfer window, midfielders look to be on the agenda for Newcastle.

Howe is already short of options there as it is and names such as Scott McTominay, Conor Gallagher and Gabri Vega refuse to go away.

Clearly, it’s all speculation for now but to prioritise strengthening in the middle of the park would make sense.

Bruno Guimaraes is the only player in that position to have arrived since the takeover, such has been the need to buy elsewhere.

This summer, however, could well change that.
