Newcastle transfer news: Scott McTominay now valued at £50m

With the Champions League race still in full flow, Eddie Howe is unlikely to say much about Newcastle United’s summer transfer business in public.

Still, there appear to be wheels in motion.

The likes of Kieran Tierney and Scott McTominay are increasingly linked with a move to the club this summer and it would hardly be a surprise to imagine recruitment staff are already working on targets.

Still, landing them won’t be easy.

Selling clubs know Newcastle are backed by huge funds and, such is the financial strength of the Premier League, buying from other teams in the division is hardly the cheapest way of going about things.

Indeed, McTominay would cost a pretty penny it seems.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United have slapped a £50m price tag on the Scotland international.

Howe is believed to view the 26-year-old as an ideal addition and the player himself is reportedly “unsettled.”

It also claimed a frustrated McTominay is also thought to have held talks with manager Erik ten Hag in regards to his future and “may have to move”.

Why would a Champions League rival sell to Newcastle?

While the player may be on board with the idea of a move, it’s difficult to imagine the club being so willing.

Unless Man United desperately need to start raising funds, there is surely little in it for them to sell to Newcastle.

The two clubs are already neck-and-neck in the top four and have contested a domestic cup final this season. The idea of those at Old Trafford willingly giving the Magpies a target they so desire doesn’t exactly seem likely, which probably explains the huge price tag.
