Gabri Veiga is having a breathtaking season for Celta Vigo and it looks like his club are resigned to losing him this summer with Newcastle United among a number of clubs interested in the 20-year-old star.
A report from Atlantico has claimed that Newcastle have ‘confirmed their interest’ in Veiga and could be in a good position to pick up the attacking midfielder.
Veiga is making headlines on the pitch this season having has scored nine goals and registered four assists from 26 league games this season, but off the pitch he is making headlines for other reasons. Many of Europe’s top clubs are keeping tabs on the player and are looking to swoop this summer.
Newcastle are among five PL clubs who’ve already made contact about Veiga
Newcastle are one of five Premier League clubs interested along with both Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Tottenham. There’s also interest from Italy as well as his native Spain.
It’s believed that Veiga has a release clause in his contract which means he could be on the move for as little as £35million with AS in Spain saying that he’d be the ‘bargain of the summer’.

The Veiga transfer situation is one that could take a while to resolve
The Spain U21 international has been described as an ‘amazing‘ player and is understood to be keen on a move to Arsenal. Whether or not the Gunners throw their hat into the ring along with the aforementioned five Premier League clubs is anyone’s guess, but they were recently said to be interested so it’s highly likely.
The report in Atlantico also says that Veiga currently doesn’t have an agent so clubs would have to speak with the player directly to convince him of his next move. That could be a good thing for Newcastle who found out the hard way with the Hugo Ekitike saga last year that young players can easily be swayed by their representation.
I don’t expect the Veiga situation is one that will be resolved swiftly in the summer with so many clubs vying for his signature, but if Newcastle remain in the middle of it all, we could end up with one of Europe’s top prospects on the books.
