Conor Gallagher is on Newcastle United’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window, but the Magpies are set to face major competition to sign the Chelsea midfielder.
Newcastle tried to get Gallagher in January, but were stopped in their tracks. Eddie Howe fancied landing the 23-year-old on loan, but was told that only a permanent move would suffice.
It was clear that the Blues did not want to send Gallagher to rivals Newcastle, and even accepted a big money offer from Everton. They proposed a deal worth £45million, but the England international said no.
However, his future is once again a hot topic heading into the summer transfer window, with Chelsea desperately needing to sell. That could lead to Gallagher departing Stamford Bridge permanently, and Newcastle are in the mix.
It has been claimed that Howe still wants to sign the former Crystal Palace loanee, but now a new side has entered the race to secure his signature.

Borussia Dortmund want Conor Gallagher
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are going to sell Gallagher ahead of next season, with both Newcastle and Brighton interested.
However, the Daily Mail believe that there is another club that are keen – Borussia Dortmund. One of Germany’s most famous clubs are now following his situation, which looks set to end with him leaving Stamford Bridge.
It was claimed in January that Gallagher was keen on a move to Newcastle, but Chelsea did not want to let him join a rival. And that is why talk of interest from Germany should concern the Magpies.
That would appeal to Chelsea more than Newcastle

If it is a straight choice between Newcastle and Dortmund, Chelsea will sell Gallagher to the latter every day of the week. That is the better outcome for them, as it means they are possibly not strengthening a rival.
It is a petulant way of doing business, because if they are that concerned that he is going to strengthen a rival then why is he not playing for them in the first place. But sadly this is modern football.
It is better for Chelsea to sell their players to clubs further afield, which is why interest from Dortmund could be a concern – depending on how much Newcastle really want Gallagher.
He has been described as the ‘perfect‘ player for the Magpies, and it sounds like he would be a good fit in Howe’s system. However, Newcastle have plenty of midfield options lined up, some of which are much more exciting than Gallagher.
