Newcastle United reportedly are interested in signing Jack Harrison this summer.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who state the Magpies and Tottenham are eyeing the Leeds United winger.

Harrison had a final day of the season to remember, scoring a last-minute winner against Brentford to secure Premier League survival.

Leeds will be in the top flight next season, and were largely helped by Newcastle beating Burnley. That result gave Jesse Marsch’s side a chance, and they took it with both hands.

While survival is a huge achievement, there could still be bad times on the horizon at Elland Road. A lot of their key players are being linked with moves away. And that includes Harrison.

Jack Harrison has had a wonderful 2022 – it’s no wonder Newcastle are interested

The 25-year-old has played a key role in Leeds’ survival. He ends the season with eight Premier League goals, all of which came in 2022.

That includes a hat-trick against West Ham back in January, that saw him receive high praise from Toon legend Alan Shearer.

“This guy Harrison,” Shearer told Premier League productions earlier this year.

“What a day for him. Absolutely fantastic. Amazing. They deserved it. They created chances and took their chances.”

A versatile player who’s caused Newcastle problems before

Harrison can play on the left and the right, which would be a huge boost to Eddie Howe. He needs another option in attack for next season, and a versatile winger would be just the ticket.

While he’s never excelled against Howe’s Newcastle, Harrison did have a lot of joy last season against Steve Bruce’s side.

It was the former Man City man’s first season in the top flight, and he had a campaign to remember. Harrison ended his debut season with 16 goal contributions, consisting of eight goals and eight assists.

And three of those goal contributions came against Newcastle. He got a goal and an assist in 5-2 pumping back in December 2020, then he netted a wonderful winner at St James’ Park last January.

He’s been a nightmare for Newcastle, but can he become a Toon hero? That would certainly be a possibility if the Magpies launch a bid to sign him this summer.
