Jamie Reuben reacts as Newcastle end the season with victory over Burnley

Jamie Reuben has sent his ‘commiserations’ to Burnley after Newcastle’s win relegated the Clarets.

Eddie Howe’s side won 2-1 at Turf Moor, ending their Premier League campaign with back-to-back victories.

Callum Wilson’s brace put Newcastle two goals up, but Maxwel Cornet’s strike gave Burnley some hope. However, they were unable to draw level.

In the end, only a win would have kept Burnley in the Premier League with Leeds beating Brentford.

Newcastle had the unfortunate job of relegating their opponents, but the result caps off what has been a wonderful season for the club.

Jamie Reuben reacts to ‘great performance’ from Newcastle

Following the game, Reuben has sent a message to Toon fans and Burnley on Twitter.

He wrote: “Great performance, win and season. Thank you to the travelling NUFC supporters for their incredible support today and throughout the season often travelling such long distances. Commiserations to Burnley – see you back in the EPL soon.”

Howe’s side were professional at Turf Moor, with no hint that the Magpies were on the beach. We picked up where we left off on Monday night, with Wilson scoring his first goals of 2022. It’s a great end to an injury ridden season for the 30-year-old.

The Toon number nine ends the campaign with eight Premier League goals, making him the club’s top scorer for the second season in a row.

The three points means Newcastle end the season with 49 points, finishing in 11th place. That is truly astonishing given where we were at the start of the year.

We almost finished in the top half, but results went against us on the final day.

But that is nothing to be upset about. This season is just the beginning of what is set to be an incredible adventure with the new ownership.

We have already shown immense growth since the takeover, and will only get stronger over the summer.

Newcastle United were once a sleeping giant, but the giant is very much awake. Roll on next season!
