A fresh injury update has emerged concerning Anthony Gordon, and it is good and bad news for the Newcastle United winger.
The 22-year-old was forced off at half time with an ankle problem against Luton Town, and it resulted in him leaving St James’ Park on crutches.
That had Toon fans panicking, with fresh fear that another major star was set for a lengthy layoff.
However, there has since been news that the injury to Anthony Gordon is not as bad as first feared.
Now the Athletic have provided a clearer update on the £40million man’s condition.
Newcastle winger avoids serious injury
According to the Athletic, Gordon is likely to miss Saturday evening’s game against Nottingham Forest. The Magpies take on Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at at the City Ground at 5:30pm, and look set to be without one of their most productive forwards.
However, it does not look like it will be a lengthy layoff.
The Athletic add that Gordon has avoided suffering a serious ankle injury, and that Newcastle officials are confident that he is not going to be out long-term after the former Everton star’s scans were assessed.

Good and bad news on Anthony Gordon’s injury
That is excellent news, as we were all fearing the worst after seeing the way he left St James’ Park on Saturday.
However, it is a shame that he will be absent against Nottingham Forest. It will be just the second game he has missed this season, with the other coming against West Ham. And that was due to suspension, rather than injury.
Gordon has proven himself to be incredibly durable during an injury hit season, but now he has succumb to a fitness problem.
He looks set to miss our next game against Forest, and that should open the door for Harvey Barnes to start his first game since September.
