Newcastle United’s miserable run of luck on the injury front continued on Saturday.

While Newcastle’s 4-4 draw with Luton was certainly thrilling, it has seemingly proven costly.

Not only do Eddie Howe’s side drop another two points at home, Anthony Gordon appears to have suffered an injury.

Days after Alexander Isak was forced off against Aston Villa, the winger was hauled off at half-time against the Hatters and duly replaced by Callum Wilson.

After the game, George Caulkin of The Athletic shared a concerning update.

Newcastle injury news: Anthony Gordon blow

With Isak currently out and Wilson unreliable on the fitness front, Newcastle could be lacking attacking options.

Other than those three, it’s difficult to pick out the next player who could feasibly start up front. Harvey Barnes may have made a scoring return after a foot injury to have ruled him out since September but the prospect of him playing up front is a worry.

It was certainly promising to see Wilson back in action but his worrisome injury record cannot be ignored.

Gordon has been excellent this season and, while it remains unclear as to what the issue is, losing him for any length of time would be a major blow.

Just as Newcastle start to recover players, it seems they’re destined to lose some. Gordon can cover both left-wing and up front, so not having him available weakens two positions, at least in theory.

It has been an awful season for injuries and it is difficult to explain why. The schedule has cleared up of late but Newcastle remain as unlucky as ever.

At some point, it surely has to turn…
