First Timo Werner and now Benjamin Sesko – Newcastle United are going to miss out on two targets to the same club.

The Magpies are in the market for a new striker, and are searching far and wide for someone to compete with Callum Wilson at St James’ Park.

Two names linked with Newcastle were Werner and Sesko, but it looks like Eddie Howe is going to miss out on both players. That is a real blow, and it will hurt even more given that they are both going to sign for the same team.

RB Leipzig to sign Werner and Sesko as Newcastle miss out

While Newcastle have been in a decent position to sign Werner, it was recently reported that he would prefer to return to Germany.

That is exactly what is going to happen, as he prepares to re-sign for RB Leipzig. They are the team who he left for Chelsea in 2020, in a move that has proven to be an absolute disaster.

The Blues spent big on Werner and it backfired, which led to his availability this summer. While Newcastle were in the mix for his signature, we appear to have been powerless to stop a reunion.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has tweeted that the 26-year-old will have a medical with Leipzig tomorrow ahead of making his return official.

That’s bad news for Newcastle, and it gets worse.

RB Leipzig have always been shrewd operators in the transfer market, mainly due to the group of clubs owned by Red Bull. And that brings us to Sesko.

Romano has also tweeted that Leipzig are close to agreeing a deal to sign the teenager next summer. That will suit RB Salzburg, who had always intended on keeping the 19-year-old for another year.

Red Bull’s network of clubs has struck again, and it is costing Newcastle the chance to sign one of Europe’s most coveted young forwards. It will be interesting to see how much Leipzig are paying for him.

In the space of 24 hours, Newcastle are going to miss out on two striker targets to the same club. While Saturday’s performance on the pitch was exceptional, issues off it with regards to transfers continue to infuriate.
