If Newcastle United want to sign Benjamin Sesko, they might have to wait until next year.
That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has provided details on RB Salzburg’s stance regarding the forward.
The 19-year-old recently emerged as a target at St James’ Park after his agent posted a picture of himself enjoying the Newcastle quayside. It’s since been reported that Sesko is a player who Eddie Howe is interested in.
However, it’s been claimed that the striker isn’t massively keen on a move away from Austria, while his current employers don’t want to sell him. Not right now, at least…
Romano on Sesko
Manchester United are also interested in the forward, and Romano has provided some information on Salzburg’s stance on his official YouTube account.
“The problem on Sesko’s side is that the answer of RB Salzburg has always been very clear with many clubs approaching Salzburg,” he said.
“It’s not only Man United, for example Newcastle and many others have asked for information and the answer from Salzburg’s side was ‘we want to sell Sesko next summer, 2023, not this summer.
“So Man United will need a really important bid if they want to sign Sesko immediately, because the plan of Red Bull Salzburg was to keep the player for one more season and sell him next summer.”
Interest mounting in RB Salzburg prodigy
While a move this summer is incredibly unlikely, there is a chance that Sesko could become a Magpie in 2023. However, they will likely face competition for his signature.
As Romano says, Manchester United keen. On top of that, 90min believe that Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Wolves are interested.
Sesko is going to be one of the most in demand players when Salzburg decide to sell. He’s their new Erling Haaland. That’s why they are keen to keep him for at least another year. If he performs well they will get even more money for him.
And for Sesko, staying in Austria and continuing his development makes sense. He’s going to become a star, so one more year with the Red Bull side will serve him well in the future.
While he remains a bit of an unknown quantity, the potential is there for all to see. He’s strong and powerful and can finish, but he’s also fast too. In fact, Goal reported last year that he’s about as quick a Kylian Mbappe – a terrifying thought.
And Liverpool fans certainly know what he’s about. Jurgen Klopp’s side faced Salzburg in a friendly the other day, and Sesko scored the only goal of the game. He also produced an amazing piece of skill that went viral.
Hopefully we see him do similar in the Premier League in 2023 – but only if it’s in the black and white of Newcastle.
