Newcastle man now ‘frustrated’ about not playing after wanting to leave this summer

Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley was denied a summer exit from the club.

Earlier this month, Geordie Boot Boys exclusively revealed that Miley wanted to leave Newcastle United on loan during the 2025 summer transfer window

Ipswich were keen on the 19-year-old, who struggled for game time last season due to injury and the form of Eddie Howe’s first-choice central midfield.

This time around, however, looks different for Miley

The Newcastle United manager will need to rotate his squad as the team look to battle across a number of fronts this season.

Miley started down at Bournemouth on Sunday in his side’s 0-0 draw on the south coast and while it was hardly a brilliant performance, context must be applied.

The Newcastle United academy graduate – along with Joe Willock – will surely improve after they put a run in the first-team together. Howe’s side as a whole also weren’t brilliant against the Cherries.

Now, some insight into the teenager’s thoughts on his Newcastle career have emerged.

Lewis Miley frustrated at Newcastle United

Miley recently made his 50th appearance for Newcastle and there’s little doubt things have stalled since his excellent breakout campaign during the 2023-24 campaign.

Still, that’s not entirely his fault. Progression in young players is not always linear, while injuries and a lack of game time also cannot be ignored.

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Miley has been frustrated by his lack of action.

“I think Lewis Miley has been frustrated about not playing,” he said.

He has started only one game this season and made only four starts during the 2024/25 campaign.

Why Lewis Miley needs help from Newcastle United fans

There is a notable drop-off in quality when Newcastle rotate either Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton or Sandro Tonali.

That may change when Jacob Ramsey is fit again but, for now, it’s clear that the back-up options don’t offer quite as much as Newcastle’s excellent first-choice trio.

That is to be expected but Miley still needs support. Newcastle are excited about Miley’s potential and he looks to be in safe hands with a manager like Howe.

Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon have both developed under his watch, even if it took a while.

There’s nothing to suggest Miley cannot go on a similar journey but he needs support along the way.
