Newcastle injury news: Boost emerges as star avoids blow

Injuries have wrecked Newcastle United’s season.

While no one will ever know quite how Newcastle’s season would have panned out if there had not been so many injuries, it would hardly be far-fetched to suggest things would turned out better.

Perhaps they would have still struggled to scale the heights they managed last season but at least fatigue could not have been blamed. Though having to play so often doesn’t excuse players of poor performances, it surely cannot have helped.

Still, there’s little use crying about spilt milk. Indeed, there has been some reasonably good news on the injury front of late.

Bruno Guimaraes injury: Newcastle boost

That’s because, according to The Athletic, Bruno Guimaraes may have avoided a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian was seen wearing strapping around his left hamstring during the defeat to Manchester City, a game he eventually played the entirety of.

Potentially missing Joelinton for the rest of the season, the idea of not having Guimaraes available too would have been of major concern.

Still, the report claims Guimaraes is free of that hamstring complaint that appeared to be bothering him during the City game.

At this stage, he is expected to feature against Fulham in the FA Cup later this month.

Bruno Guimaraes: Newcastle need star

While Guimaraes may be sold in the summer, Newcastle really need him now.

Yet to win a Premier League game he has missed since he signed for the club in January 2022, not having him available for the Fulham game later this month would be a major blow.

Lose that and Newcastle’s season is effectively over, given how far they are behind the European places.

At some point, Eddie Howe is going to have to find a way of operating without the Brazilian if he really is to depart.

For now, however, they simply cannot do without him.
