Newcastle United’s rotten run of luck on the injury front looked to have continued against Manchester City on Saturday.

Not only had Eddie Howe already lost Joelinton for a significant period of time, the Newcastle manager saw another key player seemingly pick up a problem in the dramatic defeat at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes, who may have squandered a brilliant chance in the opening few minutes but played a wonderful assist to Alexander Isak for Newcastle’s first goal, may be the latest injury blow.

Bruno Guimaraes injury: What Newcastle star was telling Eddie Howe

Indeed, according to Chris Waugh of The Athletic on X, Guimaraes came out for the second half with strapping on his left hamstring.

Waugh notes that the Brazilian was in conversation with Howe about whether or not he could continue. Ultimately, he did stay on for the entirety of the game.

“Guimaraes came out for the second half with strapping on his left hamstring & has been speaking to Howe from a distance since the break about whether he can continue,” wrote Waugh.

“He has just told the physio he wants to keep trying but he is struggling to run at full tilt.”

Bruno Guimaraes: Fresh blow for Newcastle

While it was promising to see Guimaraes come through the game, even the mere mention of an injury should be of huge concern to Newcastle.

In fact, Newcastle have not won a Premier League game the 26-year-old has missed since he arrived from Lyon.

Facing a battle to get back into the top four as it is, not having such a key player available would leave Howe’s side with an absolute mountain to climb.

Guimaraes is so important for Newcastle, let’s hope he can push through and rest over something of a break until the Fulham clash in the FA Cup.
