Newcastle United injury list
With the Premier League fixtures coming thick and fast piling even more pressure on Newcastle United‘s medical team, here’s the full list of players currently nursing an injury for the Magpies as of the 17th of April 2024. All injuries and predicted return dates are sourced from Premier Injuries.
Joe Willock Injury Update
- Reason: Calf/Shin/Heel
- Expected Return: 3rd June 2024
- Last Update: Apr 23: ‘We have decided that a period where he strengthens the area around his Achilles will benefit him more. The long-term view was taken; we will get him right for next season. Surgery wouldn’t be beneficial for him in this situation.’
Joe Willock has an Achilles problem, which may force him out of the side for some time.
Lewis Miley Injury Update
- Reason: Lower Back Injury
- Expected Return: 3rd June 2024
- Last Update: Apr 23: ‘The decision was made on Lewis to protect him long-term. We won’t see [him] again this season. Even if there was a chance, we took that away quite early on with his age; we are just thinking about his long-term prospect.’
Lewis Miley appears to have suffered a back injury whilst on duty for England’s youth sides.
Matt Targett Injury Update
- Reason: Calf/Shin/Heel Injury
- Expected Return: Unknown
- Last Update: N/A
Matt Targett is currently being assessed in the medical tent.

Jamaal Lascelles Injury Update
- Reason: Cruciate Ligament Injury
- Expected Return: 1st January 2025
- Last Update: Apr 02: ‘Jamaal’s is a big injury, obviously, the ACL, which is hugely frustrating for him and us, so he’ll be out long-term with that.’
Jamaal Lascelles is also now out for the season, to add to the ever-growing injury list. The club captain has successfully undergone surgery and will be back around next year.
Kieran Trippier Injury Update
- Reason: Calf Injury
- Expected Return: May 11th 2024
- Last Update: Apr 26: ‘Kieran, we hope he’ll be back soon, but not for this game.’
Kieran Trippier‘s calf injury now looks worse than expected. He could be out for the majority of April.

Sven Botman Injury Update
- Reason: Cruciate Ligament Surgery

Sven Botman was forced off with a ‘knock’ during the Magpies’ FA Cup defeat to Manchester City – which turned out to be a lot more sinister. He’s done his ACL, and will potentially not be available until next year.
Fabian Schar Injury Update
- Reason: Thigh Injury
- Expected Return: N/A
- Last Update: Apr 27: ‘Fabian had a bit of tightness in his hamstring. We don’t think it’s a big injury – there’s not one moment where you think he’s pulled his hamstring – but it was enough to make him feel uncomfortable. He couldn’t fully sprint, so he had to come off.’
Newcastle United suspension list
