One Newcastle United player is now set to undergo surgery tomorrow and has had his estimated return date set.
Joelinton was an unfortunate casualty in what was otherwise a brilliant victory over Sunderland in the FA Cup earlier this month, and there were fears he may be ruled out for the season.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg has now shared on X that the 27-year-old is set to have surgery on his groin tomorrow in Barcelona and that the hope is he will be back by the end of April.
Newcastle’s injury worries not as bad as first feared
It is a huge blow to Newcastle and Eddie Howe, there’s no getting around that, but there is a chance that Joelinton could still feature at the end of the season in what could be some pivotal games.
When the Brazilian first pulled up at the Stadium of Light there was an obvious concern, though the fact he played on at the start of the second half was encouraging.
Hearing Howe say that it wasn’t too much of a concern was also promising, but then the news broke that it was likely he would be out for the season with the injury, something Newcastle fans are sick of hearing.
Joelinton is a key part of the way Howe likes his Newcastle team to play and it leaves the team very short in midfield with just Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley available right now.
On X, Plettenberg said: “The 27 y/o will undergo a groin surgery tomorrow in Barcelona and he‘s likely to be out until the end of April.”

Injury nightmare continues for the Magpies
Barring some immediate setbacks there are a few players who are expected back in the next couple of weeks, but Newcastle supporters won’t be getting ahead of themselves just yet after the season they’ve had with injuries.
Joe Willock picked up a hamstring injury at the end of last season and has only played three times during this campaign after picking up a fresh knock to his Achilles.
Harvey Barnes, a key summer addition, has barely played at all after picking up an injury to his foot and suffering setback after setback to the point where he has now been missing for four months.
So, hearing news players will be back soon is great, but it’s come to a point now where the fans are merely awaiting the next key player to become unavailable.
