Newcastle United have been linked with a new manager at various points this season.
Clearly, it has been a difficult campaign for Newcastle this time around, particularly in comparison to last time out.
Still, there are a number of mitigating factors in play. Indeed, Eddie Howe is believed to be pointing towards everything from the injury crisis to recruitment issues from last summer behind the scenes.
While the club are said to back Howe, it hasn’t stopped the links with other names in the dugout.
Jose Mourinho was touted as a potential target earlier this summer, while Germany’s interim boss Julian Nagelsmann has more recently been mooted for a move.
However, it seems there could now be competition when it comes to the latter.

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Manchester United could be interested in a move for the 36-year-old.
Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford is said to be looking increasingly uncertain and Delaney claims in his recent Reading the Game newsletter that Nagelsmann is gaining favour at Old Trafford.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is overseeing a rebuild at the club following his minority purchase and has tempted Dan Ashworth away from St James’ Park, albeit the two clubs are yet to work out a compensation package.
Julian Nagelsmann to Newcastle: Eddie Howe going nowhere
While things ended sourly at Bayern Munich, few would doubt Nagelsmann is one of the more exciting young managers around right now.
Still, that would appear to matter little to Newcastle. Howe is being backed by the club and reports even suggest supporters could expect a wide-scale rebuild of the squad this summer.
Whether Howe is at Newcastle for years to come remains to be seen. For now, however, it seems Nagelsmann won’t be coming to Tyneside anytime soon.
