Former Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique does not want Bruno Guimaraes to go to Real Madrid.

The Brazil international is reportedly who Carlo Ancelotti wants to replace Casemiro, who is on his way to Manchester United.

Real Madrid reportedly made a move to sign the midfielder, contacting his agent. However, Newcastle have no intentions of selling their prized possession.

Bruno has been a revelation since arriving at St James’ Park, and is now the club’s best player a distance. He’s the kind of player who can take us to the next level, and fans want him to stay.

And so does Enrique.

Enrique on Bruno to Madrid rumour

The Spaniard has reacted to the rumour on Twitter, and delivered a message that all Toon fans can get on board with.

He wrote: “Real Madrid leave Newcastle alone.”

Hopefully Madrid heed Enrique’s advice, but this is the kind of thing we might have to become accustomed to.

Rumours like this could become the norm

Given Newcastle’s ambitions now, we might need to get used to rumours like this. If we’re going to sign top players like Bruno, we have to accept that bigger clubs will want to steal them away from us.

But while in the past we may have wanted this to happen, that is no longer the case.

Bruno has arrived to be a part of the club’s future. He is the type of player who is going to take us to where the owners want to be. The owners haven’t just signed him to sell him off for a huge profit.

That was the remit back in the day, but not anymore. Our best players leaving during Mike Ashley’s reign was the norm. Enrique can vouch for that – he opted to leave for Liverpool due to Newcastle’s lack of ambition.

But ambition is aplenty nowadays, and it speaks volumes that the Magpies won’t even entertain an approach from Real Madrid for Bruno.
