Newcastle transfer news: Real Madrid contact Bruno Guimaraes' agent

Real Madrid have already made their first move to try and sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The rumour emerged on Thursday afternoon that the Brazilian midfielder is who Madrid want to replace Casemiro at the Santiago Bernabeu. He is reportedly a target for Manchester United right now.

AS stated that the 24-year-old would cost more than £80million, which would make him our most expensive departure ever.

However, even that shouldn’t be enough to make us consider selling Bruno. Regardless, Real Madrid appear to be putting the feelers out.

Bruno contacted by Real Madrid

According to ESPN journalist Gustavo Hofman, there has already been contact between the La Liga champions and Newcastle’s talisman.

He has stated on Twitter that Real Madrid have contacted Bruno Guimaraes’ representatives. However, they have been warned that Newcastle have no plans to sell their January signing. That is exactly what we want to hear.

Newcastle must keep Bruno

With a player as good as Bruno, there will always be a worry that a bigger club will try and take him. That’s why rumours of Real Madrid interest were a concern earlier in the year.

Now the rumours have returned, and there appears to be a bit more meat on the bone. Carlo Ancelotti’s side will need to replace Casemiro if he heads to Old Trafford.

Bruno certainly fits the bill, but it would be an absolute travesty if he leaves St James’ Park.

We haven’t even enjoyed a full season of having the Brazilian on Tyneside. But he’s already a superstar, and undoubtedly our best player. In fact, he’s probably one of the best players the club has ever had.

The Toon owners will just have to pray that Bruno doesn’t get his head turned by the bright lights of Madrid. That will not be easy however. They are one of, if not the, biggest club in the world.

They regularly challenge to win the Champions League, beating Liverpool in last season’s final. He’s been brought to Newcastle to take them to the promised land, but he already belongs there.

There will therefore be a worry that he is tempted to leave and join one of the world’s elite clubs.

Our only hope is that he truly believes in the project at Newcastle, or that Madrid’s interest isn’t as serious as first feared.

Newcastle need to make new signings, but now our transfer priority could be keeping our best player.
