Newcastle United are in a race against time to get Joelinton to sign a new contract.
The 27-year-old’s current deal at St James’ Park expires in 2025, and Newcastle United need to get him to sign a new one soon. If not, they will have to cash in on him this summer to avoid losing him for nothing the following year.
Initial talks between the club and player had stalled, but things suddenly look a lot brighter with regards to Joelinton remaining on Tyneside.
There has reportedly been some progress made during negotiations, with Amanda Staveley now leading discussions after Dan Ashworth was placed on gardening leave.
There will hopefully be a resolution soon, and a new report has suggested that any new contract that Joelinton signs may include an interesting clause.

Joelinton’s new Newcastle contract could include a release clause
According to the Telegraph, Joelinton’s new contract at Newcastle United might include a release clause, if he signs an extension.
That would be similar to Bruno Guimaraes, who put pen to paper on a new Toon contract last year. He agreed a five-year deal, keeping him at St James’ Park until 2028.
However, he does have a way out of the club if he wants to leave. His contract includes a release clause, with other teams able to buy him for £100million. That is why there continues to be uncertainty surrounding his future as we head towards the summer transfer window.
Now Joelinton could also have a release clause, but it is a price worth paying if it means him staying at Newcastle United.
It is vital that we retain his services. He is completely unique, and it would cost a crazy amount of money to replace him. Joelinton is one of Eddie Howe’s most important players, and it is understandable that he wants a pay rise that recognises just how vital he is to Newcastle United.
And there is a chance now that he might even have a release clause as well, just like his pal Bruno.
