Nick Woltemade enjoyed a dream debut for Newcastle United after scoring in a 1-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Magpies secured their first win of the Premier League season, and a first win since May, thanks to a lovely headed goal by new signing Nick Woltemade.

Having signed for a club record fee, there was an expectation from the fans for the striker to hit the ground running on his debut, but that was exactly that. The German got on the end of Jacob Murphy’s cross in the first half, which proved to be enough to secure the three points.

Newcastle United move up to ninth in the Premier League table, albeit with other teams yet to play this weekend. However, it is a major confidence boost at the beginning of a very busy run of games.

Joelinton returned to the starting XI for the Wolves game, but it was his gesture towards Woltemade after the game that caught the attention of many.

Joelinton gives Nick Woltemade his moment to shine after Newcastle United debut

Alan Shearer praised Woltemade for his debut goal, stating how he was impressed with the delivery and his header past Sam Johnstone.

Joelinton had a positive game before coming off alongside Woltemade a few minutes after the hour mark. The Brazilian picked up an injury during Newcastle’s defeat to Liverpool last month and missed the draw against Leeds United and international games for Brazil as a result.

However, he looked fit and ready during the Wolves game. Post-match, Newcastle did their usual lap of honour, but this time, Joelinton pushed Woltemade to the front of the crowd to be drowned in the support from the fans.

The St James’ Park crowd was more than happy to give him the cheers he deserved for his heroics.

Nick Woltemade receives love from Shola Ameobi after dream debut

While his playing days are over, Shola Ameobi is still a big part of Newcastle’s backroom team thanks to his role as a loan manager.

Like Woltemade, Ameobi played as a striker for Newcastle, scoring 53 goals in 312 games. The hope is that Woltemade will score more goals than Ameobi managed during his lengthy spell on Tyneside.

Another video, posted by the club, showed Woltemade receiving praise from his teammates and others in attendance at the ground. The video shows Ameobi calling Woltemade “big man” and running over to give him a big hug.

Newcastle can take a lot of confidence from that win, which they can take into their first Champions League game against Barcelona.
