Newcastle United assistant manager Jason Tindall has provided a new update on Eddie Howe’s condition after missing the defeat to Aston Villa.

The 47-year-old has been missing from the dugout for the Magpies’ last three games after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

It will be over two weeks since the last time fans saw Eddie Howe managing Newcastle United by the time the game against Ipswich Town at St James’ Park comes around.

However, Jason Tindall has taken the reins while Howe recovers and has done a good job in the circumstances.

Tindall managed Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Manchester United earlier in April in his first game in charge of the Magpies since Howe missed his first game as manager after testing positive for COVID-19.

Newcastle then beat Crystal Palace 5-0 to move up to third in the Premier League table. However, a 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa saw them lose their five-point gap to sixth.

Tindall has now shared the latest update on when fans will see the boss back in the dugout.

Eddie Howe health update after Newcastle United lose to Aston Villa

As it stands, there is no confirmed fixture for when Howe will return to his duties as Newcastle manager.

The most important thing now is that he can rest and recover and return when the time is right for him. Tindall told his players to step up for Howe before the Villa game, but was not able to give any further update on his condition.

Speaking to the Northern Echo after the defeat to Villa, Tindall was asked for an update on Howe’s condition.

“Until I’m told otherwise, then obviously that (taking charge of the team) is my duty and what I have to do,” said Tindall.

“I’ve said it before, the most important thing for Ed is that he rests and he recovers. The more he does that, then the sooner he’ll be able to come and lead the team again.”

“I’ve not (spoken to Howe),” he said. “I’ve not had chance to see my phone since the final whistle has gone.

“I’m not sure if there is any contact there, but as soon as there is any more news, then I’m sure the media team will update on that.”

Jason Tindall’s Newcastle United record at St James’ Park

With no further update on Howe, Tindall is set to be in the dugout for a fourth straight game. Defeat for Ipswich would mean that they would be relegated from the Premier League, making it a clean sweep of newly promoted teams being sent straight back down.

For Tindall, he will be hoping to improve his unbeaten record in charge of Newcastle at St James’ Park.

A win for the Magpies could see them re-establish their five-point gap to sixth place if results go their way. A boost for Newcastle is that Aston Villa take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night, so at least one of the two Champions League chasing teams will drop points.
