Jamie Reuben has a tongue-in-cheek solution to Newcastle United’s current striker crisis.

The Newcastle United co-owner has delivered a message to Mehrdad Ghodoussi on X following news of Callum Wilson‘s latest injury.

The 31-year-old hurt himself in the latter stages of the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend, and it was initially suggested that he was going to be a doubt for Saturday’s game against Bournemouth.

However, Thursday brought news that surgery is on the horizon for Wilson, and that he could be out for up to 12 weeks.

This comes at a time when Alexander Isak is also injured, although there is an outside chance he could return to Eddie Howe’s squad this weekend.

In the meantime, Jamie Reuben has an idea.

Jamie Reuben sends message to Mehrdad Ghodoussi after Newcastle injury blow

Toon co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi celebrated his birthday on February 14th, and took to X the following day to thank those who had sent him messages.

This prompted a reply from Reuben, who wrote: “Happy 60th young man. Can you play upfront?”

Newcastle have had striker issues all season

At this rate, we better hope that Ghodoussi’s answer is yes!

Eddie Howe is struggling for options in attack, and that looks like it will be the case for the rest of the season. That puts Isak under a lot of pressure to stay fit, and Howe will have to manage his minutes when he returns.

It will likely mean that we see a lot of Anthony Gordon playing through the middle, which is not his preferred position. However, he has done well there when called upon this season.

Newcastle’s limited striker options has been a major issue this season. Isak and Wilson have dovetailed for the entire campaign, but not like they did last year. Back then they were getting the best out of each other, rotating in and out of the team. This time it is a case of when one gets fit, the other sustains an injury.

Now Wilson is out for pretty much the rest of the season, and that is no laughing matter. This needs to be addressed in the summer, and you can guarantee that Newcastle will sign a striker to avoid another situation like this.

The owners no doubt would have loved to have signed one in January, but they simply could not due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
