Newcastle United’s selection crisis looks to have added another casualty following an update from midfielder Isaac Hayden.
The 26-year-old was suspended for Monday night’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United after picking up his fifth Premier League booking of the season against Manchester City.
The former Arsenal man was replaced on the hour mark against Pep Guardiola’s side by Sean Longstaff.

And although Newcastle’s number 14 was treading on thin ice against the Citizens, it looks like Eddie Howe’s decision to bring off Hayden was based around an injury rather than a tactical decision.
Hayden has shared a story on his Instagram profile which has updated fans on his injury situation.

It seems that the former England under-21 international is expecting to be out of action for a ‘while’ and The Athletic have confirmed that Hayden looks set to miss the next two months after he underwent knee surgery.
The Magpies’ scheduled clash against Everton tonight has already been postponed by the Premier League.
A combination of Covid-19 cases and injuries has left Newcastle unable to fulfil the fixture.
Howe only named eight substitutes instead of the permitted nine against Ralf Rangnick’s Reds, with his bench including two goalkeepers.

But with selection issues already mounting, Howe saw Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson all pick up injuries.
Newcastle were already without defenders Jamal Lewis, Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett.
Javier Manquillo has already been ruled out of the next Premier League game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against the Red Devils, he will serve a one-match ban.
Goalkeeper Karl Darlow, defenders Ciaran Clark and Matt Ritchie, as well as midfielder Joe Willock were also all missing from the squad for the match against United.

But it seems like Isaac Hayden has been added to the ever-growing Newcastle absentee list.
The need for reinforcements in the January transfer window continues to intensify.
