Newcastle United’s first signing of the summer is almost here, with goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen set to complete his move to the club.
The Reims goalkeeper might be one of the future, but it is promising to see Newcastle United scour different markets after last summer’s mess.

I know it's early, but let's hear your hot takes 😂
Indeed, Jaouen is a highly-rated young French goalkeeper and while it remains to be seen if he is ready for life in the Premier League right away, it’s an exciting addition.
Real Madrid, after all, were linked with the 20-year-old only a few weeks ago.
Now, Fabrizio Romano – who hasn’t always pleased Newcastle fans – has offered an update.
Jaouen set to cost Newcastle United £18m from Reims
Taking to social media platform X, the divisive transfer expert wrote: “Newcastle will complete formal steps for Ewen Jaouen deal this week after the agreement sealed with Reims last week. The new goalkeeper is coming soon to #NUFC for £18m fee.”
Given that there have previously been reports that the deal could set Newcastle back as much as £24million, that has to be seen as good news.
How does the idea of MORE star players leaving after Anthony Gordon make you feel?! 😡
While the club could of course raise money through player sales this summer, reports suggest that Newcastle are working on a reasonably limited budget.
Every pound counts this summer, so snapping a highly-rated young player for a reasonable £18million does feel like a good deal.
Obviously, Jaouen has an awful lot to prove and may not even start to do so for a few years to come.

Just because Newcastle have moved to shop in different markets does not mean all of their signings will be a success, clearly.
Still, the club do boast a decent record when shopping from abroad. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Alexander Isak, Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman have all been huge successes on Tyneside.
Newcastle didn’t inspire much confidence in the transfer market last summer but it’s pleasing to see that has been somewhat addressed this time around.
