Newcastle United’s Premier League clash against Everton on Thursday night has been postponed by the Premier League.

Due to a mixture of Covid-19 cases and injuries, Eddie Howe’s side are unable to fulfil the fixture which was due to kick off at 7.30pm at Goodison Park.

Following last night’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United, the former Bournemouth manager said that his side were “dangerously close” to being unable to field a full team for the scheduled trip to the Toffees.

The 44-year-old only named eight out of nine permitted substitutes against Ralf Rangnick’s United side, two of which were goalkeepers.

With injuries and Covid-19 cases stretching the squad to its limit, last night’s injuries to Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Allan Saint-Maximin have left the Toon Army threadbare.

Newcastle were already without defenders Jamal Lewis, Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow, defenders Ciaran Clark and Matt Ritchie, as well as Joe Willock were also all missing from the squad for the match against the Red Devils.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle’s trip to Southampton on Sunday, only three days after Thursday’s postponement will go ahead as well.

Thursday’s clash on Merseyside would have seen Newcastle come up against former manager Rafael Benitez.

The Spaniard has struggled to hit the ground running with his new club and Howe would have fancied his chances of picking up three points if he had the majority of his squad available for selection.

With the Toon Army having a favourable run of league fixtures, it’s crucial we take advantage and get points on the board.
