Ian Wright delivers his verdict on Jason Tindall’s behaviour in Newcastle’s dugout this season

Newcastle United assistant manager Jason Tindall is a man who infuriates the opposition, but Ian Wright has absolutely no problem with Eddie Howe’s right-hand man.

While Newcastle fans could not stop singing about Jason Tindall to the tune of Last Christmas during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Fulham, he is not necessarily too popular with the rest of the Premier League.

He is often involved in touchline altercations, particularly last season. He infuriated Mikel Arteta at the Emirates, while Thomas Frank was not happy with him either.

Tindall is involved in plenty of incidents despite not actually being the manager, while new rules were enforced by the Premier League this season to stop him from standing side-by-side with Eddie Howe.

There has also been an increase in coaches being punished by referees, with Arteta recently receiving a touchline ban after getting his third yellow card of the season. Interestingly, Tindall has not been reprimanded once.

But he is just as involved on the touchline, and former Gunners forward Ian Wright has admitted that he has no problem with the way Tindall is conducting himself this season.

Ian Wright has no issue with how Jason Tindall acts at Newcastle

Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright have been discussing manager’s behavior on the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast, with the former Liverpool defender bringing up Tindall.

Carragher: “It was funny yesterday I was coming home in the car and listening to the games on the radio and it was the Chelsea vs Newcastle game and the fella said ‘Pochettino is having a right rumble with the Newcastle bench’ and I knew it wasn’t Eddie Howe. It was Jason Tindall!”

Wright: “Of course it was. Of course it was. See he’s another one I have no problem with, Jason Tindall. None at all.”

Newcastle fans love Jason Tindall

Wright’s reaction is a positive one. And in fairness to Carragher, he was not having a go at Tindall for what happened at Chelsea.

Those kind of incidents kind of just sum up the relationship between Howe and Tindall. Howe is always calm and composed – he rarely loses it. The only time I can recall him getting heated on the touchline was during the 2-0 win over Manchester United at St James’ Park last season when Erik ten Hag enraged him.

It is usually Tindall who gets involved in any altercations, proving to be a real irritant to the opposition.

But he is adored by Toon fans, while he continues to toe the line and avoid punishment from officials. That is pretty impressive considering the new rules appeared to be brought in because of what was going on at Newcastle.
