A club like Newcastle United is always going to attract attention.

Indeed, with Newcastle’s ownership model being divisive to say the least, the spotlight has certainly increased in the PIF era.

Couple that with the huge support the club already had, the millions spent since the takeover and the burning ambition to win major honours and it all makes for a team demanding attention.

Then there’s Jason Tindall.

Eddie Howe’s assistant manager became something of an internet celebrity last season for his supposed desire to be the centre of attention.

As such, Tindall is a big figure amongst the fanbase at St James’ Park.

After the win over Fulham on Saturday, he was serenaded.

Towards the closing stages of the 3-0 win over the Cottagers, the home support paid particular to mention to Tindall.

According to The Chronicle, the home support changed the words of the last verse of the Wham! Christmas classic ‘Last Christmas’ to “This year, to save me from tears, I’ll give it to Jason Tindall”.

Unsurprisingly, Tindall was said to have soaked up the chant as he led the way during post-match lap in front of the fans and Howe confirmed “I have no idea what it means. But he [Jason] is still singing it in there now.”

Jason Tindall: Newcastle’s cult-hero

To reduce Tindall to solely being a wind-up merchant for opposing teams would of course be doing his coaching ability a disservice.

Given the improvements he and Howe have yielded from many of the players they inherited from Steve Bruce, its obvious there’s a lot more to him than just touchline antics.

Still, they clearly play a part in endearing him to the Newcastle support.

While Howe naturally gets most of the plaudits, its good to see Tindall get his moment too.
