When Alan Pardew was Newcastle United manager, Yohan Cabaye was his main man in midfield.
The Frenchman was spectacular, and actually returned to Tyneside last week for Newcastle vs PSG in the Champions League.
As Cabaye and the rest of the world watched on, it was Eddie Howe’s main man in midfield who stole the show.
While all the headlines were about local lads Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff scoring, Bruno Guimaraes was Newcastle’s star player against Paris Saint-Germain.
He was absolutely outstanding, and the good times have since continued for Bruno. The 25-year-old signed a new five-year contract with the club on Saturday, and followed that up with an impressive display against West Ham – after he narrowly avoided a red card.

Once the Brazilian composed himself and settled down, he was dominant in midfield. He dictated play, as he continues his rich vein of form.
Bruno is playing brilliantly right now, much to the admiration of former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew.
Alan Pardew blown away by Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes
Pardew has spoke about Bruno’s performances this season on TalkSPORT on Monday morning.
“I see Guimaraes has signed a new five year deal,” he said.
“Wow. I have to say, he has really impressed me. I have not seen a lot of him, but this year I have and I have to say I really think he is an outstanding player.”

Guimaraes is Newcastle’s main man
As Pardew says, Bruno really has been outstanding this season. It was a slow start, but now he is back to his best and performing out of his skin.
Now that the contract speculation is out of the way, he can focus on his football. It is so noticeable how much he has improved since it was first reported that he had agreed a new deal with the club.
Bruno is back to playing at an elite level, much to the delight of Howe.
The Brazil international is also delighting Pardew with his performances, and he must recognise that Bruno is a level above what Cabaye was when he was strutting his stuff in the black and white of Newcastle.
