Newcastle United’s quest for Carabao Cup glory continues as they face off against AFC Wimbledon.

Fresh from their impressive draw against Premier League champions Manchester City, Eddie Howe’s men must now turn their attention to the cup as they play host to League Two opposition.

It is ultimately a cup tie that has come a week late after Newcastle’s original tie against AFC Wimbledon was postponed due to flooding at Plough Lane.

The Magpies were originally expected to receive a bye to the fourth-round but the fixture was eventually reversed, with Newcastle even donating £15,000 towards Wimbledon’s ground repairs.

Classy gestures aside, the Toon army will undoubtedly want to overcome Johnnie Jackson’s side and progress to the next round, with a fourth-round tie against Chelsea awaiting them.

Team news

Sandro Tonali came off against Manchester City with cramp and the Italian star may be a doubt for the Wimbledon game.

The 24-year-old was one of the standout performers against the champions playing a total of 78 minutes before being substituted. Newcastle are being careful to not overload Tonali, which could ultimately see him be rested on Tuesday evening.

Another player who will likely miss the Carabao Cup clash is Alexander Isak. Eddie Howe is unsure whether Isak will be fit for the Everton game, which means Newcastle will almost certainly not risk the Swede against Wimbledon.

Fellow forward Callum Wilson also remains on the treatment table, which means summer signing William Osula could be in line to start his first game for the Magpies.
