Newcastle United get back to Premier League competition this weekend against Manchester City.

It’s been a successful week-and-a-half of cup action for Newcastle United, as the dominant 2-0 win over Arsenal saw them advance to the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

That was followed up with a narrow 3-2 win over Birmingham City in the FA Cup on Saturday and now Eddie Howe’s side’s attentions will return to the Premier League.

A trip to the floundering Manchester City is on the cards for this weekend in what could be a very entertaining match.

Here’s everything you need to know about the fixture.

Manchester City vs Newcastle United team news

There’s good news for Newcastle as Dan Burn is pushing to be fit for the match after suffering what was feared to be a serious groin strain vs Birmingham.

Anthony Gordon is also in contention to start after training this week but it’s looking like Sven Botman will miss out due to a knee issue but he is nearing recovery.

Joelinton remains sidelined with Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles.

City, meanwhile, will be without Jack Grealish, Manuel Akanji and Rodri.

Predictions

Given the forms of both sides, Newcastle should be the favourites going into this match.

City only narrowly defeated Leyton Orient last weekend. Their confidence will have taken yet another hit on Tuesday when they twice gave away a lead over Real Madrid and ended up losing at the death.

The Magpies managed to draw with City earlier in the season before their form fell off a cliff, so they are more than capable of getting a win in Manchester.

Prediction: Manchester City 1-3 Newcastle United
