The international break has now concluded and here’s how Newcastle United’s players performed for their countries.
Newcastle United are still basking in the glow of their Carabao Cup final triumph and there will be a massive celebration in the city on March 29.
The parties were wild for players and fans alike on the Sunday night after beating Liverpool but several of Eddie Howe’s players didn’t have much time to revel or reflect.
Several quickly jetted off the following day to link up with their national teams for the final international break of the season.
Here’s how Newcastle’s 14 international stars performed for their countries.
Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak scored a stunning goal for Sweden in their 5-1 victory over Northern Ireland on Tuesday.
He loved his strike so much that Isak has promised Newcastle fans he will star shooting from outside the box more often.
Isak also played 61 minutes in a shocking 1-0 loss to Luxembourg.
Joelinton
It was not a great international break for Joelinton, who might not have recovered from the Carabao Cup final celebrations yet.
Joelinton was slammed for his 3/10 display for Brazil in their 4-1 loss to old foes Argentina on Wednesday.
He didn’t fare much better in their narrow 2-1 victory against Colombia, either, with fans not happy with Joelinton’s performance.
Bruno Guimaraes
Bruno Guimaraes played 78 minutes in the late victory over Colombia and earned praise for his display, but a booking he picked up meant he missed Argentina through suspension.
Dan Burn
Dan Burn has been the talk of the town after his heroic goal in the Carabao Cup final and first England call-up.
His week kept on getting better when he made his Three Lions debut and nearly scored with a header that hit the bar.
Burn earned high praise from Harry Kane and on social media for his fantastic performance in the 2-0 win over Albania. He didn’t play against Latvia, though.
Anthony Gordon & Tino Livramento
Things didn’t go quite as sweetly for his Newcastle teammates Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento, though.
Gordon was forced off injured after coming on off the bench against Albania, however, the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.
Livramento, meanwhile, was an unused sub in the first game and didn’t make the squad for the second.
Sandro Tonali
Sandro Tonali has a busy week as he played in two vigiours Nations League quarter-final matches against Germany, with Italy losing 5-4 on aggregate.
Tonali scored in the opening leg with a confident finish into a half-open net, but his side would lose 2-1 despite taking an early lead. He played the full 90 and then 68 minutes in the return fixture, which he didn’t impress the Italian media in.
Martin Dubravka
Martin Dubravka kept a clean sheet in Slovakia’s Nations League play-off first leg against Slovenia but couldn’t do so in the second as they lost 1-0.
Odysseas Vlachodimos
Odysseas Vlachodimos has seemingly lost his No.1 spot for Greece as he didn’t feature in either leg against Scotland in the Nations League.
Lewis Miley
Lewis Miley got some much-needed minutes under his belt in England U19s’ three fixtures this week, putting in a ‘decent’ performance against Wales.
Miley captained the side against Turkey in a goalless draw and played the full 90 in the win over Portugal as well.
Isaac Hayden
Isaac Hayden, who is out on loan at Portsmouth, started both legs of Jamaica’s Concacaf Gold Cup qualification tie against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with his side winning 4-1 on aggregate.
Alex Murphy
Alex Murphy was drafted in to play in the unfamiliar position of centre-back as Ireland U21s lost to Scotland last week. The Bolton Wanderers loanee dropped to the bench for the 3-1 win over Hungary.
Travis Hernes
Travis Hernes did not play in Norway U21s’ 2-0 win over Czechia.
Leo Shahar
Leo Shahar scored after just three minutes in England Under-18s’ 2-2 draw with France and played against Portugal.
