England fans got their first glimpse of Newcastle United star Dan Burn in a Three Lions shirt on Friday night.

He was named in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI, as he kicked off his reign as manager with a 2-0 win against Albania.

Dan Burn started at centre-back, and it was a solid performance alongside Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.

The national media praised Burn, who looked comfortable in an England shirt.

Elsewhere, Alan Shearer was impressed with Burn, as he followed up his Carabao Cup final heroics with another Wembley win.

England fans amazed by Dan Burn’s set piece threat

As for the England fans, they were happy with what they saw from the 32-year-old.

In fact, many of them took to social media to praise Burn just for the chaos he caused from set pieces.

This fan wrote on X: “Rashford looks really sharp, skelly is an insane talent, Bellingham might be the best midfielder in the world right now. Dan Burn has to start every game, what a threat from set pieces that man is.”

Another England supporter added: “Dan Burn has to be in the squad for the world cup just for his corner threat alone.”

“Dan Burn is a massive threat when it comes to set pieces,” added a third Three Lions fan.

“Decent player Burn. Worth playing for his threat from headers tbf,” commented this England fan.

This supporter who watched the win over Albania added: “Burn looking assured and a great set piece threat.”

Finally, this fan praised Burn’s power in the air, but suggested that Marc Guehi would be a better pick overall. They wrote: “I like what Burn has in terms of aerial threat but he lacks so much agility that the likes of Guehi have. Been spun a few times tonight where Guehi would have been comfortable.”

Dan Burn does not score enough goals from set pieces

He almost marked his England debut with a goal, and Burn was gutted not to score. Sadly, his first half header hit the crossbar rather than the back of the net.

On multiple occasions, Burn got the first contact on corners, causing panic in the Albania box. That is exactly what he did against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final too.

But Roy Keane thinks Burn should score more goals, and that is certainly true.

While he has been very threatening in the box over the past week, scoring goals is not something that Burn has done regularly in his career. In total, Burn has scored 22 goals during his career, with seven of those goals coming in a Newcastle United shirt.

For a man who is 6ft 7in, Burn should find the net more regularly from set pieces. That is certainly something he will look to work on.

But even if he never scores another goal in his career, he got the one that mattered in the 2025 Carabao Cup final.
