Once again, a loan spell is not going to plan for Newcastle United teenager Garang Kuol.

The Australia international arrived to a huge amount of fanfare at the beginning of 2023, with Newcastle United signing a player with massive potential.

There was so much excitement surrounding Garang Kuol, whose first loan spell took him up north to Hearts. He struggled for minutes there, but admitted that he was happy with his decision to join the Scottish side temporarily.

However, there was some disappointment with how he did at Tynecastle, and bigger things were expected from his second loan spell.

During the summer transfer window, he joined Dutch side Volendam, a team renowned for giving youngsters a chance. It looked like a great opportunity for Kuol, but it is turning into a nightmare.

After the 19-year-old enjoyed a relatively bright start, things have turned sour. Major changes at Volendam, including the manager leaving, have resulted in Kuol struggling to get into the team.

He has not started for the Eredivisie team since late November, and now a new report from the Chronicle has shared details on how Eddie Howe currently feels about the Aussie youngster’s situation.

Eddie Howe is concerned about Garang Kuol’s latest loan away from Newcastle

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle had been receiving positive reviews about Kuol’s developments from loan chiefs Shola Ameobi and Peter Ramage.

However, the Chronicle add that Howe is now concerned about Kuol and his situation at Volendam, although the club are reportedly sympathetic towards the youngster due to what has happened behind the scenes.

In a way, it is encouraging to know that Kuol is not playing through no fault of his own. The new manager at Volendam has changed their system, and it no longer suits the speedy teenager.

But that is of no use to Newcastle, who are keen to see Kuol grow and develop as a footballer.

Loan spell number one did not go well, and now loan spell number two is descending into chaos as well. It has not been a great start to Kuol and his Newcastle United career, while he has also seen fanfare decrease as supporters turn their attention towards Yankuba Minteh.

It is going to be an interesting summer for Kuol, as Newcastle brace themselves for another big decision. Maybe the unpredictable nature of the loan system means it could be best for him to continue his development on Tyneside, rather than away from the club.
