What is happening to Garang Kuol on loan is starting to look like a disaster

It looks like Garang Kuol is enduring another tough loan spell away from Newcastle United.

There was huge excitement when the Aussie teenager joined Newcastle just over a year ago, with Dan Ashworth bringing in a young player with an extremely bright future. Despite his limited experience, he was tipped to go right to the top.

Garang Kuol then went on loan to Hearts, where he really struggled for minutes. While the forward believed that his time in Edinburgh was beneficial, he did not have the kind of impact that many Toon fans were hoping for.

Now the 19-year-old is playing in the Netherlands, joining Eredivisie side FC Volendam during the summer transfer window. It looked like an ideal move, as they are club renowned for giving young players a chance.

However, Kuol is now more than halfway through his loan with the Dutch side and appears to be having problems.

When Kuol first arrived at Volendam, he was playing a lot of football. The Australia international started seven of their opening nine games, in which he managed to score one goal and provide one assist. He quickly bettered his tally at Hearts, where he only had one goal contribution.

But since being taken off at half time against Excelsior, Kuol has only started once. That came in a 3-0 defeat to AZ Alkmaar on November 26th.

Since then, Volendam have played seven times. Kuol has been limited to three cameos off the bench, while on four occasions he has been an unused substitute.

To make matters worse, Volendam are seriously struggling. They are currently second bottom, and only sit above Vitesse Arnhem on goal difference.

Volendam are struggling for points, and Kuol is struggling for minutes. After playing so much football to begin with, the winger is suddenly finding it very difficult.

Hopefully that changes between now and the end of the season, with fans eager to see Kuol develop into a star in black and white. But his first loan move was a disaster, and his second is not going much better.
