Joelinton is not the only Newcastle United player struggling with an injury right now.

The Brazilian missed Newcastle’s win over Ipswich Town on Saturday due to a knee injury. Joelinton has seen a specialist, and it remains to be seen when he will return to action.

Joe Willock replaced Joelinton, but struggled to have much of an impact in the Newcastle United midfield.

Meanwhile, another Toon player who featured in the win that relegated Ipswich Town is carrying a knock of his own.

Eddie Howe makes Anthony Gordon injury admission

The player in question is Anthony Gordon.

The 24-year-old was introduced as a substitute during the second half on Saturday, as he continues to wait for an opportunity to start for the Magpies again.

Gordon has been on the bench ever since returning from suspension and injury, and Eddie Howe has now admitted that the England international is still not fully fit.

“Yeah, I think Harvey’s been outstanding since he got his opportunity in the team,” Howe told the Shields Gazette.

“I think he grabbed it with both hands and that’s all he can do.

“Anthony, I don’t think is still 100% match fit. This week in training, he’s still aware of some feeling in his knee. So we need to protect him and make sure that when we bring him back into the team that he’s 100% fit.”

Newcastle United are fortunate that concerns over Gordon’s fitness coincide with Harvey Barnes playing the best football of his Toon career.

The 27-year-old has been exceptional since taking Gordon’s place on the left of attack, with Barnes boasting nine goals and five assists in all competitions.

He is one goal away from reaching double figures, with Gordon and Jacob Murphy also on nine.

Newcastle United defender could miss the rest of the season

While Gordon is carrying a knock and struggling to fully regain his sharpness, another Toon player could be out for the rest of the campaign.

After appearing off the bench against Aston Villa, Matt Targett was conspicuous by his absence for the win over Ipswich Town.

The defender was not named on the bench, and Howe told the club’s official website after the game that his season might be over due to a hamstring problem.

“We also lost Matt Targett this week to a slight hamstring problem,” he said.

“Again nothing serious but maybe enough to end his season.”

Targett could be the second Newcastle left-back whose season is over. Lewis Hall is injured, having undergone surgery on a foot issue back in March. He will not be back until pre-season.
