Newcastle United yesterday tied up a new long-term deal for popular player Bruno Guimaraes with a contract until 2028 which contains a £100million release clause.
The release clause has caused a lot of concern amongst fans, especially following reports recently that Liverpool had made an approach for Bruno Guimaraes for exactly that amount.
While it is worrying on the face of it, no details of the actual clause have been made public with some outlets claiming that the clause is “in excess” of £100million.
Fabrizio Romano was immediately asked about Liverpool’s interest
Also there could be several criteria that need to be met before the clause becomes active, so the key takeaway is that Bruno Guimaraes has committed his next five years to Newcastle.
Of course that Liverpool story doesn’t just disappear so the question was immediately posed to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano what this means for The Reds’ interest in Bruno.

Writing in his regular column for Caught Offside, Romano wrote: “Some fans have also been asking me about Bruno and Liverpool transfer rumours, but they are very happy with the midfield they have.
“I can say, though, that those around Jurgen Klopp rate Bruno Guimaraes really highly and he’s always been super appreciated by people at Liverpool. There’s nothing else to mention at the moment.”
Let’s be honest, though, Klopp can ‘appreciate’ Bruno all he wants, there’s no way he turns his back on Newcastle for another Premier League side.
If Bruno is to leave Newcastle then Real Madrid is his likely destination
If we absolutely have to worry about this clause, and a quick glance on social media will tell you that we must, then Real Madrid are the real ones to worry about.

Bruno has spoken of his desire to play in Spain and Real Madrid are known to be keen, so that’s the one to panic about.
However, I think it will still be a couple of years before we truly have to worry about that.
